Tammy G. Harris is a nurse practitioner specializing in family practice. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and raised in Mansfield, Louisiana. She lived most of her life in the Shreveport area before she attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches for three years. She returned to Shreveport to complete her nursing clinicals at Northwestern State University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2000 and worked as an RN for 12 years. She went back to graduate school at Northwestern State University in Shreveport and obtained her Master of Science in Nursing degree in 2012, and then went on to achieve her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2016, also at Northwestern State University in Shreveport.
After graduation with her master’s degree in 2012, Harris began her adventure as a nurse practitioner. She has spent the majority of her time in family practice/internal medicine, which is her passion. In 2020, she joined Dr. Scott McRight’s internal medicine practice.
Harris is passionate when it comes to providing for her patients in a holistic manner while striving to achieve the highest level of well-being possible. She believes in teaching her patients to participate in their health care to optimize desired outcomes and to improve their quality of life. She also loves to educate her patients on the importance of preventive care.
When Harris is not in clinic, she enjoys traveling to the beach, spending time with her family and friends, and reading. She voluntarily precepts and mentors nurse practitioner students, as well as serve as an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern State University.
Harris welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans.
